Yoga is for everyone at every age. Yoga at an early age encourages self-esteem and body awareness with a physical activity that's noncompetitive; helping to foster cooperation and compassion. Yoga, combining mindfulness, meditation, and breath work with physical movement, enhances children’s flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves. Doing yoga, children exercise, play, connect more deeply with the inner self, and develop an intimate relationship with the natural world that surrounds them. Enjoying an activity with friends and family members helps in encouraging positive relationships and a healthy lifestyle.
In the class, all participants are taught to become aware of the breath, and work on proprioception, matching their breath with their movements, and improve their balance and strength. Yoga is more “interactive” at this level while gently guiding the children to pay attention to their breath and explore how their bodies move. Each session will include breath work, yoga poses/partner poses, a group yoga game, then a quiet reset at the end of the session.
